What Can You Study in the UK?

GCSES,A-Levels and other equivalents

The General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) or International GCSE (IGCSE) in vocational subjects are taken up by students who have not yet completed 10th Std. Students with 10th Std. completed can apply directly for A-Levels (2 years) in various subjects.

After10th

This is a one-year pre-university qualification that is equivalent to A-Levels (12th Std). Students in 10th/11th grade can apply for this program.

After12th

If you have done 12th Std but do not meet the entrance requirements for a bachelor’s degree at top universities, a diploma program (bachelor’s qualifying program) will help you get there. This program is equivalent to the 1st year of an undergraduate degree at the same university.

Bachelors Degree

A Bachelor’s degree in the UK usually takes 3 years, except in Scotland where an honors degree takes 4 years (general degrees – 3 years). Some courses lead directly to a Master’s degree (e.g., MEng, MPharm), while sandwich courses with a placement year add an extra year.

Postgraduate Programs

A postgraduate degree in the UK may be a taught master’s (MA/MSc/MBA) of 1 year, a research master’s (MRes/MPhil) of 1–2 years, or a PhD of 3–5 years. While most master’s require prior study, some conversion courses allow students to switch disciplines.

MBA

There are over 100 MBA schools in the UK. Normally, an MBA is designed for well-qualified managers who wish to add to their practical experience by gaining an in-depth understanding of up-to-date approaches to management and its development.
